I once heard a friend of mine say she had 10 credit cards at one time.  I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.  She said she was a compulsive shopper; whenever she saw something on sale that was a “good deal,” she just had to buy it.  The problem with a lot of these “good deals” was that you often had to buy multiple to get the discount.  So then she would end up with a bunch of things she didn’t need and a whole lot of credit card debt.  She eventually realized her problem and began to cut up her credit cards one by one until she only had one left.  She uses that one for emergencies or only when she has the money to spend.
