Some Precautions about Fish Medications

February 20th, 2010 by admin

Fish medications are are essential in fish keeping. However, you should still be careful when it comes to giving medications to your fish. There is no government agency that regulates fish medications and anyone can actually administer them. Take note also that these medications may also kill beneficial microorganisms in the aquarium. Shrimp and snail may have a different tolerance for chemicals compared to fish. Adding treatments can also reduce dissolved oxygen for absorption of the fish.

To ensure that other inhabitants in the aquarium will not be harmed, buy only from trusted sources and make sure chemical ingredients are printed on the labels. It is also advisable to treat sick fish in a separate tank and isolate it for at least 10 days . Some chemicals may be harmful  for you too, so never let chemicals or the aquarium water touch your skin. Read the labels and follow the directions carefully.
