People make the assumption that women in Mormon history were oppressed due to polygamy and not having the priesthood. The interesting thing I learned (not that I’m a fan of polygamy) is that the women were given the opportunity to go to school with the help of the other wives. They became doctors and midwives. Utah I heard was one of the first states to allow women to vote. I also heard that women were initially given the priesthood. I don’t really care who holds the priesthood as long as I get to benefit from its blessings. I’m grateful to be yet another woman in mormon history.
