One thing about value: One person’s idea of value is the other person’s idea of junk.  That is what is really interesting about playing collectible card games like the one I enjoy.  While there are some differing opinions on a lot of cards, there are also some Magic Cards that are just so awesome that everybody has to agree on them.  These, of course, translate into becoming the most valuable of cards.  In terms of value, the earlier expansions are worth a lot more than the more recent ones.  I always found it interesting about Alpha being less valuable than Beta.  I wonder why that is?
