Trying to purchase fine wine in some of the smaller towns can often be quite a difficult thing to do as I found out on a recent trip through the south island. I had stopped in a tiny place for the evening and thought I would just grab some take away dinner and a bottle of wine and settle in to my hotel room. Finding a place to buy a nice wine proved more difficult than I had thought it might be and I eventually bought a bottle from a restaurant in town. I’m not sure that they are supposed to do this, but I was very appreciative of it.
