If you think a customer can’t smell a marketing-ploy-disguised-as-a-survey from a mile away, you’ve got another think coming. If you want to market, market. If you want to find out opinions, design a customer service survey for customer service outsourcing.

They don’t have to be expensive surveys, either! Something as simple as "What can I help you find today?" can give you an idea about customer desires.

If you’re getting a lot of requests for small, purple widgets and you only carry the large, blue ones, maybe it’s time to look at stocking the purple ones.
