Starting your Own Worm Farm with Worm Man’s Worms
May 7th, 2009 by adminStarting your own vermicompost is a fairly simple process. Worm Man’s Worm Farm provides all of the necessary supplies to begin your compost pile, from the bin to house your worms, to the worms themselves. There are about 4,000 worms to one pound. One pound is usually sufficient enough to begin your vermicomposting. Once the bin has the proper drainage in place on the bottom as well as good ventilation on the sides, you are ready to begin. Worms are able to eat through anything that is plant based as well as a few extras. Generally, these types of wastes include vegetable and fruit waste, cardboard, egg cartons, egg shells and coffee grounds. These worms can eat though a half a pound in about 24 hours. Be sure not to add many citrus fruits (especially pineapple, as that will disintegrate the worms) and onions. These should only be minimally composted.
