For Bible study you need something more

April 11th, 2008 by admin

Most people who own a Bible are familiar with bible concordances.  They are familiar with one because many Bibles have a small Bible concordance in the back — it serves as a kind of a brief index or handy verse-finder.  However, be aware of the fact that these are quite small and limited — a truly exhaustive concordance will require a volume unto itself — it will be many hundreds of pages in length, and many of the published concordances are quite massive.  Serious Bible students who need a concordance of the Bible will almost certainly need a separate, and exhaustive concordance in order to properly research and discover all of the Bible references dealing with a particular subject or topic.

Should you really purchase theological reference guides?

November 28th, 2007 by admin

Many Bible students are very wary of purchasing doctrinal or theological reference guides. Primarily, there are several reasons for this — for one thing these types of books are often very difficult to read. For another, theological reference books are not written from an objective point of view — rather than simply presenting Bible facts, and the attempt to argue for or defend a particular point of view. But there is really no need to worry — if you know there may be these kinds of issues, then you can be on your guard and filter out the facts from all the opinions as you read.
